The public have been asked to choose their favourite photograph from the biggest international photography competition that celebrates the built world. Run by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), 15 photos have been selected by a panel of judges from thousands entered this year.

Photography fans from around the world can now choose their favourite photography from this year’s dramatic images, and in so doing will crown this year’s Art of Building Photographer of the Year.

The cornucopia of photos in the Art of Building final includes a small church sandwiched between giant skyscrapers, reminiscent of the film Up by Pixar, alongside almost alien inspired constructs from the Middle East and heritage builds that have stood for hundreds of years.

All 15 finalist photos can now be viewed and voted upon via the CIOB’s Art of Building website www.artofbuilding.org and will be featured across a range of international media channels, reaching a global audience of nearly 60 million.

Launched in 2010 by the CIOB, the Art of Building allows amateur and professional photographers to compete using equipment ranging from high specification cameras to smart phones.

This year’s competition attracted thousands of entries, with more than 70 per cent coming from outside of the UK.

Caroline Gumble, Chief Executive of the CIOB said:

“We applaud everyone who entered our competition - so much of the photography we’ve seen for this year’s Art of Building is breathtakingly beautiful. It’s also truly inspiring to see how these photographers can tell the story of the built world around us with new and unusual perspectives. This competition is a universal conversation between those who build and those who wonder at the buildings around us.”

The public vote begins on 7 December 2020 and closes on 11 January 2021. Two awards, the Public Choice Award and the Judges Choice Award, both worth £1,500 as cash prizes, will be announced on 26 January 2021.
