For a second year running, the Chartered Institute of Building and ITN Productions are producing a news and current-affairs style programme, anchored by Natasha Kaplinsky, to showcase how transformative and demanding construction management is, and how the ‘Masterminds of Construction’ overcome risks from unforeseen events and deliver world-class projects.

Masterminds of Construction’ follows last year’s successful ‘Building Tomorrow’ programme championing construction managers and the work that they do, celebrating innovation and encouraging the exchange of ideas.

Bridget Bartlett, CIOB deputy chief executive said: “Our continued partnership with ITN Productions is all about telling the story of this great industry, the careers that can be had within it, and its importance to our everyday lives. Construction management is solving many of modern society’s most complex problems – those at the forefront are very much the Masterminds of Construction managing high risk and high reward.”

Drawing upon ITN’s 60 year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the film will look at the extraordinary breadth of the sector and the different pathways into a career working in the industry. It will also reveal the importance of professionalism and why ethics is integral to successful working practices and effective construction management. Building on last year’s programme, it will investigate how the industry can strive to attract the next generation of talent.

The news-style piece builds a wider platform for some of the outstanding achievements showcased at the Construction Manager of the Year Awards, run by the CIOB, and combines key industry interviews and news-style reports with sponsored editorial profiles featuring some of the leading organisations in the sector.

ITN Productions’ UK Director of Programming, Simon Shelley said: “ITN Productions is delighted to be partnering with the Chartered Institute of Building and supporting the Construction Manager of the Year Awards. We’re excited to embark on a programme that explores the enthralling and demanding role of construction managers and engage with professionals throughout the sector to tell that story.”

‘Masterminds of Construction’ will be premiered at a specially scheduled event at 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin) in central London. The event will also see the launch of CIOB’s brand new Academy and takes place on 13 December 2016. The programme will then form part of an extensive online communications campaign which includes CIOB members as well as journalists, writers and bloggers.
