The construction industry’s Oscars now searching an ocean of talent

Renowned for rewarding the most talented leaders in construction management, the Construction Manager of the Year Awards is open until 6 March 2017 (is still free to enter) and is now open to a wider range of managers in construction than ever before.

For almost 40 years the competition, run by the Chartered Institute of Building, has built a reputation for showcasing the very finest talent in construction. The awards are unique in the industry celebrating the person and not the project. And for 2017 not only is the competition open to construction managers who are working in programme management, for consulting firms and for clients, a whole new range of categories has been added.

Jacqueline Balian from the CIOB said: “CMYA recognises the hugely exacting jobs done by managers across the construction industry and the rewards are high, often career-defining.

“Construction managers are used to pressure, creating certainty in an environment that has its fair share of risk. These awards are about recognising the valuable contribution managers in construction make to society. It’s a beacon of excellence and we encourage the industry to get involved, take part and show off.”

Paul Marlow, who works for McAleer & Rushe, became the youngest ever outright winner when he scooped the title in 2016 said: “There is a lot of talented people within our industry putting in a lot of hard work.

“Given the demands of the job, it is not always easy to find the time to give to an awards submission/selection process. However, having been entered in this award for the first time it was most definitely worthwhile and I would urge everyone, particularly younger people within our industry, to enter.”

In an industry that recognises it must work harder to attract a more diverse workforce the CIOB is encouraging entries from the full range of construction professionals working in project and programme management.

Further information and how to enter can be found at www.cmya.co.uk.
